Covid-19 Update

Do not be anxious for anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.                             (Philippians 4: 6-7)

Dear Faithful ETeamGlobal Partners,

As we watch the news it is clear this is an interesting and unprecedented time. The Covid-1 9 pandemic has shut down entire countries around the world. Each day authorities take new, aggressive steps to stop the virus and protect the most vulnerable. Like everyone else, we too are monitoring events closely. Because our teams travel around the world, we are in constant communication with our travel agent and the airlines to gauge the impact events are having on our ministry plans.

We pray as well and remind ourselves that God is on His throne and sovereign over all the affairs of the world, even Covid-19. Psalm 47: 7-9 reads: “For God is the King of all the earth; sing to him a psalm of praise. God reigns over the nations; God is seated on his holy throne. The nobles of the nations assemble as the people of the God of Abraham, for the kings of the earth belong to God; he is greatly exalted.”

In that spirit, the ETeamGlobal staff met to pray, discern our response, and determine the best options left to us for our spring and summer missions.

They are limited. We have postponed March and April travel to Australia and Papua New Guinea and likely we will also have to cancel May trips to Nigeria and Northern Macedonia. For now, our June and July evangelism missions to Uganda and Rwanda are still on the calendar, but given the current realities, we are making contingency plans for postponing these projects as well.

The pandemic, border closings, canceled trips and social isolation is an onslaught of stress that can easily overwhelm a person. We desire to respond with compassion and encouragement. As such, ETG staff have several suggestions to help guide all of us over the next several months.

First, as you may have seen, we initiated a 19-day COVID-19 prayer campaign. Twice a day, for 19 minutes through April 4, ETG staff will host video calls to pray for and with all who would like to join us at 1:00 and 9:00 pm PST. This will be via Zoom and the app is free. For the link and instructions on how to join us, see below. There is no better place to be than before the throne seeking the Lord and praying for those impacted: the sick, not yet sick, elderly, those with underlying health conditions, for the world. We want to pray too for the thousands who are dying and have not heard the name of Jesus, about his birth, life, death and resurrection, and the hope and assurance we have in His name.

Second, we believe the best strategy to having hope is to commit to a renewed time of daily bible reading – the Psalms are a wonderful place to sit, meditate, and think. Read until God speaks to you! We want to suggest too that you journal your thoughts, fears, concerns and insights as to what the Lord reveals to you in Scripture. Include in these times, praise and worship. This will engage your emotions and change them from anxiety, fear and worry to hope, peace, and rest in Him. “Do not be anxious for anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4: 6-7)

Third, we continue to have conversations with our partner ministries in Africa, Europe, and Asia, to identify needs and where ETG and our supporters can help minister to them. Current restrictions make this difficult but we will keep you informed on any opportunities that present themselves. Meanwhile, we encourage everyone to check-in on your neighbors—see if they need help shopping, picking up prescriptions, doing errands or if they just need someone to talk to. This is a very tangible way to express love, kindness and be a light in a world that increasingly needs good things!

Fourth, on March 23rd, we will begin posting a new video each week to our Facebook page. Over the next couple of months, ETG staff will share a brief message of hope and encouragement from God’s word. Visit our Facebook page for these videos—and please share them with family, friends or neighbors who you feel might be seeking encouragement.

Finally, Paul encouraged the Colossians by writing them, If then you have been raised with Christ, see the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on the things that are above, not the things that are on the earth. (Colossians 3: 1-2)

With Love and Prayers,
